Hartmut Arras - President
Born in Germany, studied Architecture (Germany), holds a Master of Science (M.S.) in City and Regional Planning (IIT, Chicago, USA) and a Dr. Ing. Raumplanung (on housing-policy and city-development). 1993 visiting Professor at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Faculty for Social Sciences Lived 1968 - 2004 in Basel, Switzerland, now in Berlin, Germany. Worked for a few years as architect, then as consultant in an Institute of applied economic research (prognos, Basel). 1984 co-founder of a foundation for shaping the future (SYNTROPIE - Stiftung fuer Zukunftsgestaltung, Basel), President since 1995. Numerous projects in the fields of urban development, urban renewal, housing-policy, urban traffic, scenario writing, participation. Mediator in a conflict through browncoal digging, moderator of various public fora on urban problems, coach for municipal fora in Bulgaria, moderator of a network of Associations of local Authorites of South-Eastern Europe and of a working-group for founding an Associations of local Authorites of Georgia. Member of the German Association of City- and Regionalplanners (Vereinigung der Stadt-, Regional- und Landesplaner e.V. (SRL), Berlin), member of the board 1994 - 2000. |

Dieter Läpple - Vice President for external affairs
Professor of Urban and Regional Economics
Hamburg University of Technology
Dieter Läpple is Professor of Urban and Regional Economics and Head of the Research Unit on "Urban and Regional Economics and Sociology" at the Hamburg University of Technology. He is currently member of the advisory board and Urban Expert for the Urban Age Programme of the London School of Economics and the Alfred Herrhausen Society for International Dialog; Research Fellow of the "Ladenburg Kolleg 'Zwischenstadt'" of the Daimler-Benz-Foundation, Ladenburg, and is a member of the German Academie of Urban and Spatial Planning. Läpple has served on a variety of different advisory boards and his current research focuses on the restructuring of the economic bases of cities and regions, the global-local-interplay, the urban labour market, urban time-space-configurations and theories of time and space. |

Ivan Staniè - Vice President for internal affairs
Born in Sweden, lived in Serbia and India before enrolling at the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana. Was the national representative for Yugoslavia in the European Assembly of Students of Architecture (EASA). After graduating in architecture at the University of Ljubljana, attended a post-graduate course in planning. Worked as research assistant at Oxford Brookes University as a Chevening scholar. Present professional interests include planning regulation, participative methods in planning, communication techniques and publishing. Employed as researcher at the Urban Planning Institute of Slovenia. Editor of the magazine Urbani izziv. |

Yvette Shiffman, a native New Yorker, is a housing and urban planning consultant with more than thirty years of experience working in New York City government and non-profit organizations on developing and managing innovative housing programs. Responsible for overseeing NYC housing management, anti-abandonment and low-interest rehabilitation loan programs. Directed rehabilitation of 1600 vacant city-owned apartments for low- and moderate-income families under new non-profit ownership, and rehabilitation of 300 apartments for existing tenants of limited income through creation of a mutual housing association. Developed/managed model programs for tenant-initiated cooperatives, supportive housing for the homeless, and stabilizing the Lefrak City housing complex.

Petra Hirschler
Lived in Vienna ever since and graduated at the Vienna University of Technology (MSc. Urban and
Regional Planning, 1998). Worked with a consultancy for 10 years specializing in regional development projects in Central and Eastern Europe. Today employed at the Department for Spatial Development, Infrastructure and Environmental Planning (UT Vienna), center of regional planning and regional development. Teaches regional planning and regional
development and organizes international student projects. Fields of research: regional planning and development, cross-border cooperation, European Union policies and gender mainstreaming. |

Uri Mazor
Born and raised in Israel. Graduated The Bachelor of Architecture degree from Pratt Institute, New York, NY. After Practicing for few years went on for a Master degree in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University, New York. Today lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel, as a junior partner in a firm specializing in range of Planning, Urban Design and Architectural projects throughout the country and abroad. Gained experience in various projects ranging from Strategic planning for large regions, through urban renewal projects for different city centers around the country, up to a range of Architectural complexes for a choice of uses and locations. Was one of the founding members of the "Young professions forum chamber" in the IAA - the Israeli Architecture Association. Teaches Architecture in Bezalel Academy of Arts, Jerusalem, Israel. |
