SCUPAD | Salzburg Congress on Urban Planning and Development
2009 congress review: Topic & keynote
!Lifestyle? versus Life Patterns: Planning for new urban and rural interdependence
Mankind is currently confronted with well-known environmental, economic and cultural challenges and opportunities. Many of our present day lifestyles and patterns of consumption are ruining the planet. A critical question is how to develop living patterns that are responsible and sustainable for both society and individuals. The way we choose to live, the patterns of consumption and production and the relationship between urban and rural areas are all in need of redefinition.
SCUPAD Congress 2009 will focus on two aspects of this debate
- Workshop A: Expectations versus Accountability
- Workshop B: Density versus Intensity
How these issues impact planning decisions, and the ways in which planners, the public and private sectors function, will grow out of how this generation addresses these challenges.
